With its subtropical climate and high temperatures throughout the year, Okinawa has an abundance of tropical fruits such as pineapples and mangoes, but in fact, the island also grows its own strawberries. You can enjoy freshly picked, sweet and juicy strawberries grown in the dazzling sunshine of Okinawa to your heart's content. Come and experience this delicious and joyful sightseeing experience!
There are several farms in Okinawa where you can enjoy strawberry picking, among which the largest strawberry farm, "Chura Ichigo Nanjo House," offers strawberry picking from December to May. The farm grows around three to five different varieties of strawberries in their spacious greenhouses, a perfect place to compare and discover your favorite strawberry variety. It's located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa’s Main Island, about 30 minutes by car from Naha Airport and 10 minutes from 'Sefa Utaki' World Heritage Site.
There are two different strawberry picking plans that you can choose from. One is the recommended "All-you-can-eat plan" (reservations available), where you can pick strawberries in the greenhouse and eat as many as you like right there and then. The other is the "Pick & take-out cup plan" (not available for reservation), allowing you to take home the strawberries you have picked. Please note that the plans available on the day of your visit may be subject to change depending on the strawberries' growing conditions, so please check the website for the latest information before you visit.
There is also a farm cafe at ‘Chura Ichigo’, which is open all year round. (Irregular open days, please check the opening calendar on the official website).
In the cafe, you will find a variety of sweets and drinks made from fresh strawberries, including their popular smoothies and kakigori (fluffy shaved ice). Even during the off-season for strawberry picking, this is the best place to enjoy delicious Okinawan strawberries.
