DAY 1

Day 1:Zurich–Schaffhausen–St Gallen


You start in world-famous Zurich and pass through Schaffhausen, with its beautiful old town and Renaissance-era buildings, frescos and sculpture—perfect for strolling. Then St Gallen waits, with its awe-inspiring Abbey precinct, cathedral and library. While you’re there, why not plan the perfect excursion to Switzerland’s most traditional and quaint region, Appenzell? Or you could also get to the top of Mount Santis with cable car.

DAY 2

Day 2: St Gallen–Rapperswil–Lucerne


Depart St Gallen on the Pre-Alpine Express and travel past Rapperswil, a picturesque medieval town. Once in Lucerne, enjoy town squares, churches and steamships on Lake Lucerne. Not to be missed: and excursion to Bern, a UNESCO world Heritage site, and home to one of the longest shopping promenades in Europe.

DAY 3

Day 3: Lucerne–Interlaken–Montreux


Here’s your chance to take the beautiful GoldenPass Line over the Brünig Pass to Interlaken. Once in Interlaken, consider a side-trip to Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe: a sparkling snow and ice wonderland accessed through the highest altitude railway station in Europe. Then, continue on through the scenic Simme Valley to Montreux on Lake Geneva.

DAY 4

Day 4: Montreux–Martigny–Zermatt


From Lake Geneva, you’ll travel to Martigny—the gateway to Great St Bernard and Forclaz Pass. Continue on via Brig to Zermatt. Once in Zermatt, enjoy an excursion to Gornergrat for the finest views of the mighty Matterhorn via a century-old cog railway. A vista that includes 29 sky-high peaks is waiting.

DAY 5

Day 5: Zermatt–St Moritz


This legendary stretch includes a ride on the Glacier Express from the Matterhorn village traveling through Chur, Switzerland’s oldest city, before arriving at St Moritz. Its hundreds of serpentine turns and mountain tunnels at 3-6,000 feet are a photographers dream.

DAY 6

Day 6: St Moritz–Lugano


Two routes lead to Lugano in Switzerland‘s sunny south. In summer, choose the Bernina Express train to Tirano (Italy), then bus to Lugano. In winter, travel by Palm Express PostBus over passes and through valleys. Don’t miss a 1.5-hour excursion on the Centovalli Express from Locarno to Domodossola, Italy a spectacularly stunning route that includes 83 bridges and 31 tunnels.

DAY 7

Day 7: Lugano–Lucerne


Few things will take your breath away like the Wilhelm Tell Express. Combining rail and waterway travel, this 5-hour trip starts with scenic rail before connecting to a spectacular 2.5-hour Lake Lucerne steamer boat ride. Add on a trip to Mt Titlis: take the world’s first revolving cable car to panoramic views of snow-capped summits and pristine Alpine landscapes.

Day 8: Lucerne–Zurich
