Osaka is Japan's second largest metropolitan area after Tokyo. It has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for many centuries. Osaka was formerly known as Naniwa. Before the Nara Period, when the capital used to be moved with the reign of each new emperor, Naniwa was once Japan's capital city, the first one ever known.

Shinsekai


A casual, popular downtown located in the west of the Ten’noji-koen Park, bristled with many old eating and drinking establishments with Tsutenkaku Tower, the symbol of Shinsekai.


Shinsekai has a reputation as one of Japan’s more seedy and dangerous neighborhoods, with a sizeable homeless population in the neighborhood. Also towards south of the JR railway tracks is one of the few areas in Japan where open prostitution occurs without much police interference.

Shitennoji Temple


The oldest officially administered temple in Japan, Shitennoji was built by Prince Shotoku who was known for his profound Buddhist faith invited three Korean Baekje carpenters, and they constructed this temple in 593.

Nakanoshima Park


Nakanoshima Park is a waterfront park nestled between the Dojimagawa and Tosaborigawa rivers. The park, about 1.5 km in length and 10.6 ha in area, is an urban oasis filled with greenery attracting a lot of citizens. Osaka's first public park, it was established in 1891, incorporating the city's first beer garden, and providing citizens with sophisticated recreation and relaxation opportunities, together with a cafe also built in the park.

The Tempozan Ferris Wheel is the city's largest. It offers far-reaching, panoramic views of the bay area and the city's skyscrapers beyond from a height of 112.5 meters. It is located just next to the Tempozan Marketplace and Osaka Aquarium.

Mikoko Park


Minoo Park is a forested valley on the outskirts of Osaka, just north of the urban sprawl. During the fall, it is one of the best places in the Kansai Region to see the autumn colors in a natural setting, as opposed to the attractive and fall foliage found at temples and gardens. The colors are usually best in the second half of November.

Getting There :


Minoo Park starts a short walk north of Hankyu Minoo Station.


From Umeda in central Osaka, take the Hankyu Takarazuka Line from Hankyu Umeda Station to Ishibashi Sation (15 minutes) and transfer to the Hankyu Minoo Line to Minoo Station (5 minutes). The entire one way trip takes about 25 minutes, costs 270 yen and is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass. There are frequent connections.



Mikoko Park

Instant Ramen Museum


The world's first instant noodle product originated in Osaka.


No explanation about instant noodles, or instant ramen, is needed, since we are all highly familiar with them. Instant noodles are the perfect solution in all kinds of daily-life situations, providing quick between-meals or late-evening snacks, and overtime or emergency meals. They have already become indispensable in our lives. Japan's domestic annual consumption has reached 5.4 billion servings (in 2014; according to the Japan Convenience Foods Industry Association). This means that annual instant noodle consumption per capita is 42.4 servings; in other words, every one of us eats them three to four times a month on average. I'm sure that we can now call instant noodles our national food!

Hattori Ryokuchi Park


The open-air museum of old farmhouses from all over Japan gives you the great opportunity to study to local culture, architecture and traditions during the Edo period. Those 11 houses (Nihon Minka Shuraku Hakubutsukan) were built during the 17th till 19th century. After they were removed from their original location the houses found a new home in the app. 360000 square meters museum park.

Osaka Science Museum


The Osaka Science Museum is a science museum in Naka-no-shima, Kita-ku, Osaka, Japan. The museum is located between the Dōjima River and the Tosabori River, above Osaka's subterranean National Museum of Art.

Take the Yotsubashi Subway Line to Higobashi Station, from where the museum can be reached in a 5-10 minute walk. Nakanoshima Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line is even closer.

Osaka Tenmangu Shrine


Osaka Tenmangu Shrine founded in the 10th century, is one of the most important of hundreds of shrines across Japan that are devoted to the Shinto deity of scholarship, Sugawara Michizane. Osaka Tenmangu Shrine has been destroyed by fire a number of times during its history, and its current main hall (honden) and main gate date back to 1845.

Osaka Tenmangu Shrine is a short walk from Minamimorimachi Station on the Tanimachi and Sakaisuji Subway Lines or Osaka Temmangu Station on the JR Tozai Line.
