One of the popular sightseeing spots in Okinawa is the “Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium” in the northern part of Okinawa main island. But in May 2020, the “DMM Kariyushi Aquarium” newly opened in the southern part of Okinawa main island, near Naha Airport. This aquarium features a new style of presentation that combines marine life and video content and is popular among locals and tourists alike thanks to its easy 20-minute drive from Naha Airport and the convenience of being adjacent to a shopping mall.

You can enjoy a scene full of light that changes its expression every hour, as well as images of living creatures swimming underwater based on the concept of the three "Ds": Dynamic, Drastic and Dramatic. The key color used is "teal blue", a color between blue and green, creating a transparent sea and the unique charm of underwater Okinawa is expressed through images and CGI.

Enjoying the forest as well as the sea is something else you can enjoy at the DMM Kariyushi Aquarium. Another feature of this aquarium is that there are no explanatory displays about the creatures, so the visitors can enjoy the feeling of observing and being surrounded by the creatures in their natural habitat. Instead of explanatory displays, an official app is available. Visitors can use the app to check the explanations of the creatures and the floor map. The app is available in English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and the museum is equipped with free Wi-Fi, which you can use to download and use the app.

There are about 190 species and 5,000 living creatures to see, so both adults and children can fully enjoy the experience. The adjoining shopping mall is also a great place to eat and to shop on rainy days when you can't enjoy the outdoors.
