In Okinawan dialect, "Yachimun" means pottery. Pottery is often used in daily life including items such as tablewares but also the famous Okinawan “Shisa” (guardian angel) that ward off evil spirits. There is a pottery street called Tsuboya Yachimun Street in Naha city that has a variety of pottery shops and is the perfect place to take a stroll while looking for your favorite Yachimun.

If you want to experience hands-on pottery making, visit “Tsuboya Yachimun Dojo” located on the same street. Here, you can make your own Yachimun while an instructor guides you with the technique.

You can make a “Shisa” or a cup using the potter’s wheel. There is also a course for painting cups and plates. The skilled staff will teach you how to make it so you can have fun and enjoy experiencing the traditions of Okinawa!
